Telangana helps Odisha restore power supply

The electricity restoration works undertaken by the employees of Telangana state’s power utilities in the Fani-affected areas in Odisha have proven fruitful so far. Electrical lines of 34 km were laid in an effort to restore power supply in the vicinity of Bhubaneshwar on Tuesday.

The cyclone Fani caused large-scale damage to electrical poles, transformers, and power transmission lines, thereby affecting power supply in 16 districts in Odisha.

Subsequently, the Odisha government asked the Telangana state government for its help in restoring power in the state.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao responded positively and directed Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi and Transco CMD D. Prabhakar Rao to participate in the restoration activities.

As  many as 1,000 employees from various power utilities of the state travelled to Odisha in special vehicles on May 7 to initiate the works.

The Chief Minister’s Office said in a press note, “A 34-km stretch of damaged lines, 74 transformers, and 537 electrical polls have been restored so far. Power supply has been restored in Bhubaneshwar and in Puri districts.”
