Film trade pinned a lot of hopes on April releases when the film business has seen an all time low during the months of February and March.
It was key for April releases to perform in order to avoid further slump at the box office. Thankfully, summer season started off with a bang with Majili hitting the bull’s eye.
Majili turned out to be the biggest hit in Naga Chaitanya’s career and it was followed up by Chitralahari that was released on following Friday.
Sai Dharam Tej’s six film flop streak has come to an end with the film that has put up a decent show at the box office.
April 19 witnessed a clash between Jersey and Kanchana 3 and both the films turned out to be good hits.
Jersey has been termed as the best movie of the year while Kanchana 3 received brickbats from the critics. However, both the films turned out to be box office winners with Jersey dominating A centers and Kanchana 3 ruling the B and C centers.
Avengers: Endgame signed off April on a high note. Telugu cinema had an amazing April with a hit film on every weekend.
Trade is hoping that Maharshi will give the much needed mega boost with a blockbuster outing.
Nani’s ‘Jersey’ has crossed coveted $1 million mark but this is not an exceptional achievement for a Nani starrer. The sports drama ought to cross $1.5 million to set a record for Nani.
From long time, Nani’s films are not moving beyond $1.1 million gross. “Jersey” has got great reviews and the word-of-mouth is also strong. This is a right film to go beyond and become number one hit in his career at USA box-office.
But it will face major problem of retaining enough screens in its second weekend as “Avengers: Endgame” will occupy all of them. This is the major worry for Nani’s movie.
Nani’s aim is to join $2 million club as stars like Varun Tej, Nithin, and Vijay Deverakonda have such movies in their kitty.
“Jersey” theoretically is right film to achieve this feat but the timing of the release is bad.
Rajamouli is an avid moviegoer in spite of being a busy and successful director.
He watches almost all the films on day 1 amid morning show crowds to catch the pulse of the audience. It is probably one of the success secrets of the Baahubali director.
Rajamouli used to be a bit liberal in showering praises upon the movies he watched. He used to put obligatory tweets too.
But of late Rajamouli is being very selective about tweeting about the movies he liked.
He stopped posting obligatory tweets after he is being followed by the National media and movie fans across the nation. Which means if Rajamouli tweets about a film then it is genuinely special.
Rajamouli tweeted about a movie after a very long time and it is about Jersey. He didn’t tweet about a single movie after Geetha Govindam that was released eight months ago. This shows that only a few films are able to reach the bar he has set for himself.
“Heart warming and joyful.. #Jersey is full of superbly written, crafted and Directed scenes… Well done Gowtam Tinnanuri… A film which everyone involved can be proud of..
Nani “Babu”… Just love you anthe..,” tweeted Rajamouli in praise of Jersey.
Nani starrer sports drama “Jersey” has crossed coveted one-million dollars mark at the US box-office.
The movie that collected $911k gross in its opening weekend has added another 43k dollars on Monday.
At the latest count, the film grossed more than than $50k on Tuesday taking its total gross to $1 million.
The emotional drama has crossed one- million dollars mark in just five days. It is sixth $1 million movie for Nani after “Eega”, “Bhale Bhale Magadivoy”, “MCA”, “Ninnu Kori” and “Nenu Local”.
“Bhale Bhale Magadivoy” that collected $1.43 million in its lifetime run is Nani’s career best blockbuster and it is expected that “Jersey” would cross this figure since it will have another two-weeks smooth run with no major competition.
Nani won rave reviews for his performance in this sports drama. Several celebrities too had showered praise on Nani.
Nani’s ‘Jersey’ will be hitting the screens this 19th April. Interestingly, for the first time, a middle-range Telugu movie is eying China market.
Our Rajamouli’s “Baahubali” movies had tried to capture China market but unfortunately they didn’t succeed. For some reason, the Baahubali movies didn’t appeal to Chinese people.
Trade observers say Chinese audiences are preferring emotional content in Indian movies than action stunts or glitzy graphics.
Massive successes like “Dangal” and “Hindi Medium” have proved this theory. Since “Majili” is also a movie with high emotional content dealing a father-son bond, the makers feel that it will have better chances in China.
If Nani’s film gets good release in China and succeeds there, it would expand our Telugu movies market.
Summer season is all set to begin in Tollywood. Ram Gopal Varma’s “Lakshmi’s NTR”, Nikhil’s “Arjun Suravaram” and Niharika Konidela starrer “Suryakantam” are the first movies to hit the screens this summer season. More than Rs 20 Cr is riding on these three movies this month end.
But the real important movies that show impact at the ticket window are coming to the screens the first week from April as Mahesh Babu, Vijay Deverakonda, Naga Chaitanya, Nani and Bellamkonda Srinivas are in the competition.
Mahesh Babu’s movie alone would do more than Rs 100 Cr theatrical business. This is the only big star movie this summer. Rest are from medium-range stars.
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha’s “Majili” will set the screens on fire this summer and the momentum is expected to continue till the release of hottest hero Vijay Deverakonda’s latest romantic entertainer “Dear Comrade”. These films are releasing amidst the election season and cricket season.
