Balakrishna Launching Film before Results

Will Nandamuri Balakrishna win again as MLA? People are betting high on this and bets are in favour of his loss.

Nandamuri Balakrishna is the sitting MLA from Hindupur Assembly constituency which is traditionally citadel for Telugu Desam party.

The party’s candidates have been winning since 1983. Balakrishna who won from this seat comfortably in 2014 has faced stiff competition from YSRC candidate this time.

But Balakrishna is quite confident that he would scrape through and emerge as winner. So much so that he is launching his next film much before the election results. His new film will be launched on May 17, five days before the election results.

One of the reasons for early launch is that he doesn’t want to face media after the poll results as he fears TDP rout.

After tasting disastrous results with NTR Mahanayakudu and NTR Kathanayakudu early this year, he is now commencing an out and out commercial movie in the direction of K S Ravikumar.

The film will be launched on 17th May and regular shoot will begin in June.

Namrata is my strength and life: Mahesh Babu

Q  Now that Maharshi is ready for release, what are your thoughts on it?

I’m very excited. We have all worked extremely hard into putting the film together. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t put work into my previous films (laughs). However, this time, I feel a rare kind of satisfaction which I cannot explain in words. I’m truly hoping for Maharshi to mark a milestone in my acting career.

Q  Why was the trailer released just a week before the film? Isn’t that very unusual?

As per the norm, a film’s theatrical trailer is usually released at its pre-release event. After wrapping up the film’s shoot, I was away with my family on a much-needed break. So when I returned, I rushed for the event, and the trailer was released as planned. We had released another trailer earlier. No controversies here. (chuckles)

Q  Speaking of controversies, you did not mention Puri Jagannath or Sukumar among the directors whom you’ve worked with while talking about it with at an event. That seems to have upset them.

Really? No! You are making that up. (laughs) All I can say is that it was an honest slip-up. Both Puri Jagannath and Sukumar have played a special role in shaping my career. I don’t prepare my speeches beforehand. I’d rather be spontaneous than perfect in the presence of my well-wishers. However, now that you’ve brought it up, Puri sir allowed me the opportunity to star in Pokiri which, as everybody is aware, was a turning point in my career. I will forever be grateful to him for that!

Q  And Sukumar?

Sukumar put his faith in me for Nenokkadine, which received a fair amount of critical acclaim even though it didn’t do very well at the box office. In my opinion, in fact, Nenokkadine was truly way ahead of its time. What makes the film even more special for me was the fact it features my son Gautam, who played the younger version of my character in the film.

Q  So he’s already a star?

Not particularly. Both my children are free to choose what they want to do with their lives. It isn’t necessary for them to become actors just because their parents are.

Q  You seem to be growing younger. What’s your secret?

First of all, thank you.  I just like being fit. Also, I’m very conscious about what I eat. I have no cheat days or vices (other than obsessing over my own films). Above all, I think that it’s very important to be at ease within. I derive my happiness from my family. They keep me grounded.

Q  What’s your next film going to be?

I’ve signed a film with director Anil Ravipudi. It’s a great script and one that I have embraced without a second thought. It should go on the floors in July.

Q  How much of your success do you attribute to your wife Namrata?

Namrata is my strength, backbone, my life. My success, my sanity, my joy — none of it would not have been possible if it weren’t for her and for my kids. Namrata has made me who I am today.

Q  Which recent Bollywood film has impressed you the most?

Uri. I loved it. I’d love to do a war film. In fact, I’m producing a war-based film with Adivi Shesh. And before you ask, I have no plans to sign a Hindi film.

Last Week Before Maharshi Takes Over

Avengers: Endgame has been on a roll in Telugu states like it has been across India and across the globe. It has set new records for a Hollywood film in Indian markets.

The Hollywood superhero film has surely dented the business of local films right from its day 1.

Jersey and Kanchana 3 withstood the Avengers storm and have held their ground in the second week. Both the films have been doing steady business in their respective strong circuits.

Jersey continued to do better in A centers while Kanchana 3 held well in B and C centers. Both the films are commercial hits in terms of box office returns.

Ashwini Dutt Gets Money from Maharshi

Dil Raju and PVP, the other two partners in “Maharshi”, will share profits after the movie’s release based on its performance at the box-office.

Ashwini Dutt will not have any stake in the film henceforth. Dil Raju has agreed in principle to pay him Rs 7 Cr as part of his share from the film.

Ashwini Dutt has been demanding Rs 10 Cr from this project but Dil Raju refused to part anything as the film’s budget has gone beyond its pre-release business.

To avoid last minute head-ache, Mahesh Babu reportedly intervened and settled the issue.

Ashwini Dutt may not get any dates in future from Mahesh Babu as he reportedly got miffed with the senior producer in this entire issue.

The real box office ‘khiladi’

The box office is witnessing wonders from fresh talents. But among the ‘kings’, some factors set Akshay Kumar apart as the real ‘khiladi’.

What makes Akshay’s box office journey different from other Bollywood superstars is his consistency to hit silver screen with several movies a year and draw in the audience.

According to Shibasish Sarkar of Reliance Entertainment, which will distribute Akshay’s upcoming film “Sooryavanshi”, it’s the actor’s “tremendous discipline, his lifestyle and rigour of keeping churning out three-four films a year” that make him a box office ‘khiladi’.

“Of course, he has talent, understanding of the market and everything. But this would not have been possible without the discipline he maintains,” Sarkar, Reliance Entertainment’s Group CEO (Content, Digital and Gaming), told IANS.

For the production, exhibition and distribution sectors, the 51-year-old’s films are a win-win all the way, says film and trade expert Girish Johar.

“The audience is willing to come to watch his film even four times a year, and that gives a major boost to ticket sales. Also, the stories that he has been telling aren’t routine. There is something new to offer all the time. For every film that he is doing with a social message, there’s one madcap comedy or action entertainer.

“He is selecting films wisely and has his economics right. He is balancing all things right,” Johar told IANS.

For example, if one Salman Khan film mints Rs 300 crore a year; Akshay, by way of releasing four films that are able to generate over Rs 100 crore apiece gives him total earnings of Rs 400 crore.

“It’s just that his earnings get divided,” Johar said and added, it’s a feat considering how in today’s “ruthless times”, the audience rejects films with the star power, budget and scale of “Thugs Of Hindostan”.

The ‘khiladi’ tag has stayed with Akshay since his breakthrough role in the 1992 film “Khiladi”, after which he became an undisputed action star with projects like “Sabse Bada Khiladi”, “Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi”, “International Khiladi”, “Waqt Hamara Hai” and “Mohra”.

In 2000, he tried his comic timing in the hit movie “Hera Pheri”. It was followed by movies like “Garam Masala”, “Phir Hera Pheri”, “Bhagam Bhaag”, “Welcome”, “Singh Is Kinng” and “Housefull”.

After 2010, Akshay’s filmography kept getting further diverse. Against a “Rowdy Rathore” and “Housefull 3”, the actor offered his fans “OMG – Oh My God!”, “Special 26”, “Holiday”, “Baby”, “Airlift”, “Rustom” and “Jolly LLB 2”.

These films offered more than just entertainment. He continued the streak with films like “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” and “Pad Man”, which have brought about consciousness for health and sanitation like never before.

His last film “Kesari” was his ninth hit in a row after “Gold” (Rs 102.10 crore), “Pad Man” (Rs 78.22 crore), “Toilet – Ek Prem Katha” (Rs 132.07 crore), “Jolly LLB 2” (Rs 117 crore), “Rustom” (Rs 127.49 crore), “Housefull 3” (Rs 109.14 crore), “Airlift” (Rs 128.1 crore) and “Singh Is Bliing” (Rs 89.95 crore).

Akshay is the most “bankable” star in distributor Rajesh Thadani’s opinion. “From action to comedy, and now films with a patriotic streak, he keeps the audience curious with what’s next and they look forward to what he will come up with. He hasn’t kept his career monotonous,” Thadani said.

To the actor, currently caught in a row over citizenship, veteran actors Poonam Dhillon and Anupam Kher have come to his defence.

“You have been an inspiration for many in the film industry for giving back to the society. Please continue your good work and don’t let negativity deter you in any way. Being a Canadian citizen is not taking away your Indian spirit, soul and love for India,” tweeted Poonam.

Anupam urged Akshay not to explain his loyalty towards his country to people. “You are a doer. You don’t need to explain to anybody.”

Aadi with two brains

Actor Sai Kumar’s son Aadi did many experiments in the past irrespective of the results and once again he has repeated it.

‘Burra Katha’ is his upcoming and here is the teaser.

Aadi is playing the role of a guy who is born with two brains and behaves as per the brain shuffles to function. Once he is a good guy and sometime he is bad. How this disability will affect him, forms the plot.

With this film writer ‘Diamond’ Ratna Babu is turning as director while Mishti Chakraborty and Naira Shah are playing the female lead roles.

Actor Rajendra Prasad essays father of Aadi in the movie and he too suffers because of his son mischievous things. And it’s Posani who will be seen as doctor and identifies Aadi’s ‘Twin-Brain.’

Overall, the teaser is fully loaded with entertaining stuff and lastly ’30 Years Industry’ repeats a Brahmanandam from ‘Jamba Lakidi Pamba’ which is hilarious.

Burra Katha is produced by Deepala Arts banner and has music of Sai Kartheek.
