Charan Quotes Hefty Price For Sye Raa Rights

Mega Powerstar Ram Charan has spent a fortune on his daddy’s dream project Sye Raa.

The historical drama has almost completed its filming and is aiming for release on October 2. Producer Ram Charan is quoting high price for the theatrical rights of Sye Raa.

He is expecting more than Rs. 90 crore from pre release theatricals of Sye Raa in Telugu states.

Charan hopes to get around Rs. 120 crore for Telugu version theatrical rights.

Sye Raa is releasing in other languages as well. But it may not be able to recover its high costs (Rs. 200 crore+) with its theatrical rights alone. However, it will get handsome offers for its digital and satellite rights.

Sye Raa is aiming at October 2nd release to make the most of Dussera weekend. There won’t be any big films in Telugu to compete with Sye Raa at that time, but will it get a free ground in other languages?

TN CM deletes tweet urging PM to include Tamil as optional language in other states

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include Tamil as an optional language in curriculum across India. He later deleted his tweet.

“Request Honourable PM Narendra Modiji to include Tamil as an optional language for study in other states. This will be a great service to one of the most ancient languages of the world,” he tweeted.

The tweet came at a time when the Centre was forced to revise the new Draft National Education Policy, which had suggested a three-language formula, described by many political leaders as the imposition of Hindi.

In the draft National Education Policy 2019, a three-language formula has recommended the inclusion of English and Hindi besides mother tongue in non-Hindi speaking states, while Hindi-speaking states were to include English and an Indian language from other parts of the country.

Many leaders from non-Hindi states, especially Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, had opposed the policy.

In Tamil Nadu, leaders cutting across party lines have said the state would not tolerate any imposition of the third language.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has said that the Centre cannot force any language.

The Centre has, however, maintained that the policy was just a draft, subject to changes and ensured that no language will be pressed upon.

Stalin demands exemption from NEET for TN students

Following the announcement of National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) exam result, DMK chief M K Stalin reiterated his demand for an exemption for Tamil Nadu students from the annual medical entrance test.

In a statement released by his party on Wednesday, Stalin was quoted expressing shock on the central government not paying heed to the exemption demand.

“It is really shocking that BJP let Central government is not considering the demand despite our state assembly having passed resolution on the exemption from NEET exam”, he said.

Quoting figures from the recently released NEET results, he accused the government of spoiling the dreams of Tamil Nadu students.

“Almost 75 thousand students have failed in the exam. A 17-year teenager from Tirupur committed suicide by hanging herself at her house as she was upset on not being able to qualify though she managed to score 490 out of 500 in 12th board examination. Another student Vaishya committed suicide by self-immolation in Thanjavur district. The central government is spoiling the dreams of Tamil Nadu students which is unacceptable,” read the statement by DMK.

The party also stated that in the forthcoming parliamentary session, DMK parliamentarians will raise the demand of exemption from NEET in the parliament and will try to find the right solution.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday announced the results and scorecard of NEET 2019.

Nalin Khandelwal of Rajasthan bagged 701 out of 720 marks to emerge as the all- India topper. Bhavik Bansal of Delhi secured the second position while Akshat Kaushik from Uttar Pradesh secured the third position.

The NEET is conducted by the NTA for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in medical and dental colleges.

Centre’s move on language aims at deceiving Tamil Nadu: M K Stalin

DMK president M K Stalin alleged on Monday that the Centre’s move on dropping the clause on compulsory Hindi learning in the draft National Education Policy was aimed at deceiving Tamil Nadu and demanded an explanation over it.

He sought a categorical assurance that Hindi will not be thrust on the southern state. Presiding over a function to celebrate the 96th birth anniversary of his father and DMK patriarch, late M Karunanidhi here, Stalin said in the absence of such an explanation, Tamil Nadu will witness a massive agitation on the lines of the 1965 stir to oppose Hindi.

Recalling the demonstration led by Karunanidhi during the pre-Independence era and the 1965 protests against Hindi in Tamil Nadu, he said a situation was now emerging for reprising such massive agitations.

“The announcement (by the Centre on dropping the contentious clause mandating Hindi learning) has been made with an intent to deceive and if there is no explanation (assuring that Hindi will not be thrust) in two to three days, the leaders of the alliance partners here will get together, decide and following that, Tamil Nadu will witness a massive agitation, be prepared,” Stalin told party workers.

The DMK chief alleged that the BJP-led Centre was enacting a drama on the language issue after seeing the huge opposition to the proposal in the draft National Education Policy on Hindi learning in Tamil Nadu.

We shouldn’t give up on MeToo

Actress Taapsee Pannu says people must not stop raising their voice against sexual harassment at workplace and continue the #MeToo movement.

Her comment comes just two days after director Vikas Bahl was given a clean chit after an allegation of sexual misconduct made against him by a former employee of the now disbanded Phantom Films, was probed, and his credit as director of “Super 30” was restored.

Even actor Alok Nath, who was accused of rape by a writer-director, has appeared in the film “De De Pyaar De”.

Asked how she looks at the situation, Taapsee told IANS: “Look, if the person who is accused of sexual harassment, doesn’t get punished, of course the spirit of the movement, the spirit of a woman who comes out with the story of abuse in public, gets shattered.

“However, that should not stop other girls from raising their voices if they are abused…because girls have stayed silent for ages.

“We all can see how a collective consciousness has come into the picture since the #MeToo movement started. Nothing will change overnight, but we should not give up on the situation and tolerate abuse.”

Taapsee, who has been vocal about women empowerment, said it takes a lot of time to break the momentum in such matters.

“Obstacles will come, but we should not give up. This is a transformative time and therefore it is difficult but if we do not continue, the change will not come in future,” added the “Pink” actress.

Prabhas Is The Baahubali Even Without Rajamouli

Prabhas’s Baahubali is still on top in terms of box office returns while other superstars are fighting for Non-Baahubali records.

If Saaho lives up to the expectations, then it will become highly difficult for other heroes to achieve Non-Baahubali records too.

Although Saaho doesn’t have Rajamouli at the helm, it is getting lucrative offers from all corners.

Going by the current trend, Saaho theatrical rights for Telugu States itself would fetch around Rs. 110 Cr to Rs. 120 Cr, which is miles ahead of other biggies.

Saaho Telugu version’s worldwide theatrical rights would easily fetch Rs. 150 Cr according to trade pundits. This shows the trust and expectations on the movie.

Fans of other superstars give away the credit of Baahubali records to Rajamouli, but Saaho is going to show how big a star is Prabhas compared to his contemporaries.

Saaho achieving breakeven status itself will set a bar for other biggies that are still struggling to cross Rs. 100 Cr mark.

There is unprecedented craze for Saaho in other languages too and we are not even talking about the business that it is going to do in other states.

Directed by Sujeeth, Saaho is gearing up for August 15 release. The film is bankrolled by UV Creations and features Shraddha Kapoor as its female lead.
