Battle between Dutt and Dil Raju

The much-awaited ‘Maharshi’, Mahesh Babu’s 25th film, has created a huge conflict between two leading producers C Ashwini Dutt and Dil Raju.

Veteran producer C Ashwini Dutt is demanding Rs 10 Cr as a share in profits from this project at any cost, while Dil Raju’s version is that he has not gained a single rupee from this mammoth project from the pre-release business.

Dil Raju’s claim that “Maharshi” is a loss venture for him as the budget shot up and the pre-release business just covered the expenses. But producer Ashwini Dutt doesn’t buy his theory.

When you produce a film with a superstar like Mahesh Babu and do more than Rs 130 Cr pre-release business (theatrical, satellite and other avenues), and say that no profit has been gained on the project, does anyone would believe?

If you can’t even get a pie from Rs 130 Cr business, what is the point in producing a film with a superstar? Ashwini Dutt has this argument.

Ashwini Dutt wants minimum of Rs 10 Cr share from this film’s business. Since he had delivered many blockbusters in the past, he doesn’t want to be associated with a superstar’s project for the namesake.

He gains nothing from attaching his banner’s name to “Maharshi”, there is no added value to him if there is no monetary gain.

As everyone knows, the movie is produced by Dil Raju, Ashwini Dutt and PVP together on the advice of superstar Mahesh Babu. He wanted to settle all three commitments at one go.

Mahesh Babu took an advance from Ashwini Dutt long back. He wants returns on this project at any cost.

What will Dil Raju do now? How will this issue be settled? Will Mahesh Babu interfere?

Russell Slams KKR for ‘Bad Decisions’

One of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell has taken the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by storm with virtuoso displays, amassing 406 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 209.27.

But the same cannot be said about his team as KKR have now lost their last six games and are placed sixth in the points table with 8 points after 11 games. And Russell feels that bad decisions cost KKR the games, as they used the wrong bowlers at the wrong time.

“We have been making bad decisions, (and if we keep repeating them) we will always lose games and that’s what we’ve been doing. I could pinpoint a few games where had we just looked to bowl in the right areas or maybe, bowl bowlers who could have restricted the game, it would have made a difference,” Russell rued.

Terming KKR the worst fielding side, Russell opined that the batting hasn’t been the problem.

“The batting hasn’t been struggling really. We got the totals that we should have defended. We’ve been the worst fielding team so far,” he said.

Russell had previously expressed his desire to bat at No. 4. Quizzed whether that has been discussed, the Jamaican said he would be used as a floater in the team.

“I have had conversations with the coach. He’s backing me to go in whenever the team needs me. They are going to have me as a floater now instead of me always batting down the order. If they need me to bat at No. 3-4, that would be my job,” he said.

On the team morale, Russell said since KKR’s defeat to Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, he has not stepped out of his hotel room.

“I have been in my room for the last couple of days. After losing one game after another, I’m not the type of guy who would walking around, pretending that I’m doing something good. We have to have passion inside and not show it on TV. I am very passionate inside,” Russell said.

Talking about KKR’s match against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, Russell said it will take a miracle for them to beat Rohit Sharma and Co.

“We played Rajasthan Royals and were defeated by a weak batting order. If we can’t restrict the other team at 170+ with our bowling, we are going to need miracles against a strong team like MI,” he said.

The 30-year, who got a World Cup call up from the West Indies riding on his stellar displays, was the reason KKR won three of their four games so far before succumbing to six defeats on the bounce.

Russell was adjudged Man of the Match in those three games, the most sensational being his 13-ball 48* against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru on April 5, when he snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

“I have never feared any bowler. Never. Bowlers fear me,” Russell said.

Russell was asked if the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga could trouble him on Sunday. “I’m not bragging, I can get out in one ball tomorrow or the first ball they bowl can go for six.

“Bumrah is a top bowler, so is Malinga. But they are human beings too. They can bowl a few balls that slip off their fingers, don’t come out like they normally do. And I’m in business then,” said Russell who has so far plundered 42 sixes, the highest by a distance this season.

KKR need to win their remaining three games and hope other results go their way in order to make it to the playoffs.

Why is KTR silent on Inter fiasco

The unusual silence of Telangana Rashtra Samithi working president K T Rama Rao over the goofs-up in the declaration of Intermediate examination results that led to the suicides of nearly 20 students has surprised the opposition parties.

Normally, KTR has the habit of reacting on any major issue immediately on his social media platforms. But so far, he has not made any comments.

His father and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao also reacted to the fiasco in the Intermediate results only after five days and death of as many as 18 students.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee leader Ponnam Prabhakar wondered why KTR was tight-lipped over the bungling in Intermediate examinations results.

Ponnam criticised that the TRS government was intentionally destroying the educational system in the state. He demanded the government to reveal the three member committee report regarding inter results issue.

Telangana Jana Samithi president Prof M Kodandaram said KCR was neglecting the education sector only because he did not want educated youth question the failures of his government.

He threatened to lead a massive rally to Intermediate Board to demand sacking of its secretary.

Samantha’s most memorable birthday

The Akkineni Kodalu, Samantha has turned a year old on Sunday but this is probably her most memorable and happiest birthday and it has all the right reasons too.

Majili is the first reason. This is her first film with Naga Chaitanya post their wedding. The film went on to become a biggest hit in Chay’s career.

The other reason is Samantha is continuing her success streak at the box office.

‘Rangasthalam, ‘U Turn’ ‘Super Delux’ are all blockbusters and Samantha’s performance from all her previous movies very different from each other. As an actress, she is very satisfied the way her career is moving.

Now Samantha has ‘Oh Baby!’ and ‘96’ remake. Both the films have unique content and so we can expect a lot more from her.

Anyway wishing Samantha Akkineni many more happy returns of the day and hope she continues to entertain us like she always does.

KCR to make MIM Akbaruddin as LoP in Assembly!

TRS chief and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao who is hell-bent on stripping Congress of Main Opposition status in Telangana Legislative Assembly, has been making quick moves to make MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi as Leader of Opposition through ‘back door method’.

At present, Congress has Main Opposition status in Assembly and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka is the Leader of Opposition.

However, soon after coming to power for second term, KCR launched ‘operation akarsh’ to engineer defections in Congress.

Congress won 19 seats in recent Assembly polls. But 11 Congress MLAs have already announced their decision to join TRS, thanks to KCR’s ‘operation akarsh’. Congress currently has just 8 MLAs.

If two more Congress MLAs join Congress, which is expected in another two days, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) can be merged into TRS Legislature Party (TRSLP).

With this Congress will lose Main Opposition status and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will lose Leader of Opposition status in Assembly.

The number of Congress MLAs in Assembly  is expected to come down to 5 or 6 members in a week or so as few more are expected to join TRS soon.

MIM has 7 MLAs. This makes MIM, the second largest party in the House after ruling TRS.

With this, KCR has devised a sketch to accord ‘Main Opposition’ status to MIM. To get Main Opposition status, a party requires 12 MLAs in Telangana Assembly.

Though MIM has just 7 MLAs, KCR wants to accord ‘Main Opposition’ status through back-door for his friendly party MIM.

The backdoor method is that MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi will be offered the seat in House meant for Leader of Opposition.

Currently, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka occupies this seat. After Congress loses Main Opposition status, the remaining 5 or 6 Congress MLAs will be pushed to bank benches.

MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi will sit in LoP seat and other MIM MLAs will occupy the seats allotted for Congress MLAs.

In this way, KCR wants his ‘friendly party’ to be “Main Opposition” in Assembly.

Who’ll be responsible for cyclone damages: AP minister

With the Election Commission (EC) barring Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu from holding review meetings, a senior cabinet minister on Sunday asked who will be responsible if cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ causes damage to the state.

“Who will be responsible? Chief Secretary? The Election Commission? Or the Modi government?,” asked Finance Minister Y. Ramakrishnudu, referring to reports that ‘Fani’ cyclone in Bay of Bengal may turn ‘very severe’ and head towards the Andhra coast.

The Minister’s comments came two days after Naidu shot off a letter to the EC, indirectly threatening it with legal action to recover the cost overrun of the ongoing projects.

Naidu also sought to blame the EC for the death of seven persons in thunderbolt, saying a review meeting by the Chief Minister could have prevented the deaths.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief took strong exception to the poll panel preventing him from holding meetings to review the ongoing projects like Polavaram and construction of state capital Amaravati.

Naidu alleged that such restrictions were imposed only in case of Andhra Pradesh as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers in states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies continued to hold review meetings.

Ramakrishnudu said the Cabinet Secretary was not interfering in any matter but in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam appointed by the EC was interfering in every issue.

He alleged that the EC’s actions posed a threat to the democracy.
